about me
Hello, I'm Maki. I am a potter based in North Yorkshire.

I make ranges of functional tableware, all of which are hand thrown or hand built. My love of making tableware is strongly influenced by the food culture from my background.

Each piece is kept simple, yet has a little bit of my own narrative within the design. They often come in a series and with a unique Japanese name, which is quite important to me. I use stoneware clay to maintain its warm feel and earthiness that I love. My pots are made to be used, not for being hidden on a shelf. I hope people can enjoy using handmade pots in their everyday life.

Born in Japan. Lived in UK since 1997. I first studied Diploma in ceramics in 2000 followed by the training with late David C White, studio potter in Mytholmroyd. After some years of different career path, I finally returned to the clay in 2009. Gained a first class honours degree in Applied Creative Design at Harrogate College in 2012. I currently work from my home studio, as well as running a pottery workshop part-timely at the local art centre for people with special needs.
